Our Story
Twic Media Reports (TMR) was founded in December 2017 by journalists and community leaders who saw a gap in reliable, locally grounded news coverage for Twic County (Twic Mayardit). Based in Turalei, we began as a small digital outlet reporting on payam meetings, market days, school openings, and the everyday resilience of our people.
Today, TMR has grown into a trusted independent newsroom serving readers across South Sudan, East Africa, and the global Twic diaspora — from Melbourne and Minneapolis to Nairobi and Juba. Our reporters walk the same roads they write about. We publish in English and cover stories in Dinka where communities speak them first.
We are not affiliated with any political party, armed group, or commercial interest. Our loyalty is to facts, fairness, and the people of Twic Mayardit — at home and abroad.
Meet the journalists behind our coverage on our Team page.
Our Mission
TMR exists to inform, connect, and empower the Twic community through accurate, timely, and independent journalism. We believe that a well-informed public is essential to accountable governance, economic opportunity, and social cohesion.
Our editorial priorities include:
- Local accountability — covering county government, payam administration, and development projects with rigour and transparency.
- Community voice — elevating stories from cattle camps, market stalls, classrooms, and clinics that national media often overlook.
- Diaspora bridge — keeping families abroad connected to home through news, live broadcasts, and fundraising coverage.
- Peace and dignity — reporting on conflict and displacement with sensitivity, avoiding sensationalism that deepens division.
- Youth and women — ensuring diverse perspectives shape our newsroom and our pages.
We publish daily online, stream live through TMTV, and distribute breaking alerts via WhatsApp and social media to reach readers wherever they are.
Code of Ethics
TMR adheres to the highest standards of journalistic integrity. Every story we publish is held to the following principles:
- Accuracy — We verify facts through multiple sources before publication and correct errors promptly and transparently.
- Independence — Our editorial decisions are free from political, commercial, or personal influence. We disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
- Fairness — We seek comment from all parties named in our reporting and represent differing viewpoints honestly.
- Human dignity — We do not identify victims of violence or minors without compelling public interest and, where possible, consent from guardians.
- Source protection — Confidential sources who face genuine harm are protected. We do not pay for news.
- No hate speech — We reject content that incites violence or discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, gender, religion, or political affiliation.
- Corrections — Factual errors are corrected with a clear note. Serious breaches are reviewed by our editorial board.
