South Sudan national team captain Peter Maker Manyang popularly known as CJ Maker has apologized on behalf of Cueibet County following violent incidents during Sunday’s match against Twic Mayardit at Munuki Playground.
In a statement, Maker expressed regret over the actions of some individuals and said Cueibet County strongly condemned violence in football.
“On behalf of Cueibet County, I sincerely apologize for the violent acts committed by some individuals during our game today,” Maker said.
He emphasized that football should promote unity, respect and passion rather than violence or harm.
“We strongly condemn all forms of violence in football. The spirit of the game is about unity, respect, and passion, not harm,” he said.
Maker also expressed solidarity with those affected by the incident and wished them a speedy recovery.
“We stand with those affected, and I’m wishing y’all a quick recovery,” he added.
The match ended 1-1 after Twic Mayardit scored a late equalizer. Following the final whistle, some Cueibet supporters invaded the pitch, with the incident reportedly resulting in injuries to Twic Mayardit's two players and three supporters.
The tournament’s technical committee subsequently suspended matches pending further action.
