Majok Ayar Chieny Resigns as President of Bahr el Ghazal Counties’ Tournament

Majok Ayar Chieny has resigned as President of the Bahr el Ghazal Counties’ Tournament (BCT) and announced his retirement from community sports activities, effective September 17, 2026.

In a brief statement issued Thursday, Majok confirmed his decision to step down from the leadership role and end his involvement in community sports.

“I, Majok Ayar Chieny, do hereby resign from my position as President of Bahr el Ghazal Counties’ Tournament and retire from community sports activities with effect from today, 17.9.2026,” he stated.

Majok was serving his second term as president of the Bahr el Ghazal Counties’ Tournament, having previously completed his first term in the leadership position. During his tenure, he played a role in coordinating and supporting community sports activities in Juba.

His resignation comes as the tournament has faced a number of challenges during its current edition. His departure also comes barely two days after fighting reportedly broke out between supporters of Rumbek North and Aweil South.

Majok did not provide further details about the reasons for his resignation or indicate whether the recent incident played any role in his decision.

His departure brings his second term as BCT president to an end, as well as his involvement in community sports leadership.
