Twic Mayardit Football Team Withdraws from BCT

Twic Mayardit Football Association has officially withdrawn its team from the Bahr el Ghazal Counties’ Tournament (BCT), citing safety concerns and unresolved issues following a violent incident during its opening match on Aug. 16.

Twic Mayardit Football Association President Charles Chol Mel said the association decided to withdraw because outstanding differences and obligations related to the tournament had not been resolved.

The incident occurred during Twic Mayardit’s match against Cueibet County at Munuki Playground, where a pitch invasion and subsequent violence left several people injured, including two Twic players who were knocked unconscious and a supporter who was stabbed in the arm.

Twic management has criticized the BCT Organizing Committee for failing to adequately address the incident and resolve accountability concerns before the tournament resumed, saying those responsible for the violence remain at large.

The withdrawal comes amid ongoing disagreements between Twic Mayardit Football Association and the BCT Organizing Committee over the handling of the Aug. 16 incident.
