The Twic Mayardit community is mourning the passing of Sultan Mayuot Yai Maror, a chief representing Aweng Payam at the Twic County Bench Court in Turalei.
Sultan Mayuot died peacefully in Juba on Friday morning after battling an illness, surrounded by family members and his children, according to his son, Ring Mayuot Yai Maror, who announced the death.
In an emotional tribute, Ring said his father died exactly one year after the loss of his mother.
“Rest well, Baba. On September 9, 2025, we lost our beloved Mama, and exactly one year later, you have joined her. When you see Mama, please greet her for us and tell her that we love and miss you both dearly.”
Chief Mayuot will be remembered as a kind, humble and approachable leader who treated both young and old with warmth. Those who knew him say he was often quick to share a joke and a smile with people he met while travelling between Aweng and Turalei.
Mourners have gathered at the home of his son in Eden residential area of Juba. Burial arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.
